SRHS INITIATIVES FOR

BUILDING STUDENTS’ CAREER SKILLS

SRHS has made a commitment to work with and for students in helping them develop skills necessary for the 21st century workplace.  Many things are done throughout the school program each year to improve students' communication, technical, and analytical skills.  In the senior year there is a strengthened emphasis on ensuring that each student leaves SRHS with a personalized portfolio that highlights that student’s goals, skills, and experiences.  Also, internships that provide work experience and high school credit are available to seniors who meet qualifying requirements.

OTHER CAREER-RELATED OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE:

**Internship Programs:  For the past several years, SRHS has had students serving internships in fields related to their career-choices.  Students receive valuable work experience, professional exposure, and additions to their resumes while earning high school credit.  Students must apply and receive approval for internships, which must relate to their career-choice.

**Job-Fair Programs:  Each year the Counseling Department and the Cooperative Technical Education classes sponsor groups of students to attend local job fair programs. Participating students are required to carry their resumes and sample applications.  Over the past several years, some students have been successful in finding jobs through these programs.

**Mock Interviews:  Several Career and Technical Education classes set up situations in which students are interviewed for jobs that are appropriate for their career-choices.  Students are interviewed by other teachers or professionals, and feedback is provided to the CTE teachers to pass along to the students.
