Ÿ  Children’s and Youth Choir in Residence, Grades 3-12 - Organization dedicated to bringing classical choral music to the children and youth of Central Virginia. Each chorister will be trained in proper vocal production, note and score reading and musical interpretation of the great choral classics in short, tapping the potential of this region’s wealth of musical talent. The group will seek to build an organization of choral excellence and goodwill between the singers in the tradition of the great boy choirs of Europe and the wonderful children’s choirs of North America. The students conduct extensive research related to an annual theme and present their findings in one of four categories: exhibits, documentaries, performances or papers. Students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while creating their entries. There are two divisions: junior (grades 6-8) and senior (grades 9-12). Designed to give quality instruction in the arts and sciences, the camp also includes recreation, values exploration, and citizenship components. Campers get to explore the things that interest them, hang out with some new friends, relax and play sports and other games, and stay on a college campus for an entire week. Counselors, instructors, nurses and directors are available 24 hours a day. The camps are designed to give quality instruction in the performing, visual and literary arts as well as physical and behavioral sciences. The week-long adventure also includes recreation, values exploration, and citizenship. There are a total of 40 courses available, although not all are offered on the VT campus.
