FYI

Students need to wear or bring tennis shoes everyday! They will be participating in some kind of physical activity each day.

This past nine weeks was full of fun and excitement.       All of Fourth Grade went on a field trip to the Science Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke. The students  had a wonderful time petting interesting animals,         exploring science through hands-on activities, and even watching a video in the museum’s famous planetarium. Thanks to all the chaperons who helped make this field trip a success.

Math News

In Math, we will begin our unit on fractions and decimals. Concepts will include identifying fractions, finding   equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, discovering the relationship between fractions and     decimals, and adding and subtracting decimals.  Having your child help with cooking and baking at home is a fun and easy way to help reinforce these concepts and help your student see math in everyday life.

Reading and Language Arts News

Our third unit in Reading is “Problem Solvers”.  We will   be reading stories that explore how different             characters solve problems that they encounter. In    Word Study, students will continue to explore and learn about different patterns in spelling. Also, please encourage your child to read at least four of the “Virginia Young  Readers” books so that they can attend the party at the end of the year.

Science News

We will continue our Science rotation the last half of    the nine weeks. Students will continue to learn about the   Solar System, plant and animal life, electricity and      magnetism, energy, and  patterns in weather.
