Character Counts

“Character Counts Week is a national campaign to help students learn the six pillars of character:  responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, citizenship, and respect.  A weeklong program of activities is planned to help students learn these common values in our society.  Canned food items are collected to demonstrate caring, and distributed to the Salvation Army for Thanksgiving.  The class on each hall that brings the most food will win a pizza party! We have lots of other fun activities planned!”

 Peer Mediation
During fourth grade classroom guidance, Peer Mediation is taught to all students.  A definition of mediation, the role of mediation in the school setting, and an understanding of the mediation process is explained over a period of four weeks.  Selected and willing students then receive 6-8 hours of more in-depth training after school.  Peer Mediators are used during the school year to mediate conflicts between their peers.
