Directions to play Crash:
Print out the game pieces and cut out each car.
Spread out the cars face down on a playing surface. One player at a time
will pick up a car and try to read the word. If a player reads the word
correctly, then he or she keeps that card and then picks up another car. A
player’s turn ends when he or she cannot read a word or picks a “crash”
card. The game is over when all of the cards are used. The player with the
most cards wins. |

Directions for
Sight Word Memory:
Print
and cut apart 1 set of playing cards (each set includes two copies of each
word). To play, lay all cards face down in the middle of the playing area in
a grid fashion (rows and columns). If the 36 cards in the set are too many
for your group, select the desired number of word pairs and place them face
down (put the rest away). Children take turns selecting two cards and
turning them over. The child reads the word and collects the cards if they
match. If they don't he turns them back over and play continues with the
next player. When a player makes a match, he gets to take another turn.
Continue playing until all matches are made. The player with the most
matches wins |

Directions for Roll and
Read:
You will need one dice and
each player or each team will need a copy of the "Roll and Read" sheet.
Sight words are use for this game. Your child will be bringing his or
her mastered index card box home at the end of the year with all of his or
her mastered sight words that you can use for the game. If you would
like to play before then, please notify your child's first grade teacher and
she will be happy to send home a master list that you can use. Each player takes turns rolling the die. The number rolled (2 through 6) is the number of letters in a word that a player needs to record and to read. For example, if a player rolls a 3, then that player needs to find, read, and record a 3 letter word in the 3 column. If the number 1 is rolled, then that player loses a turn. If a player cannot read a word, then he or she loses a turn. |

pumpkin cards evenly among players. Place the farmer in the middle of
the table and tell the children that the farmer is looking for words that
