Check out the
US Naval Academy Summer STEM
program for rising 10th graders (June 13-18) and for rising 11th graders
(June 20-25). The program is free, but selected students musts provide
their own transportation to Annapolis. Application deadline is March 31.

International Space Olympics
The Virginia Department of Education has
announced an opportunity for as many as ten (10) Virginia public school
students who will be juniors or seniors during the 2011-2012 school year
to participate in the International Space Olympics in the Moscow Region
of Russia. The competition will be held during October 2011, and
students who are selected will receive a travel scholarship for $2,800
that will cover all major costs of participation in the Space Olympics.

a free weekend to girls to "EXPLORE ENGINEERING". The event is April 1-2

Khan Academy --

-- is a very useful site. There you can find short (15 minutes or so)
video presentations on just about any topic covered in most subjects offered
from elementary school through AP courses. I checked out a few math videos and
found them very easy to follow. If a student is absent or just needs help with,
for example, “conic sections: hyperbolas,” this is a great resource.
Another website which
might be of interest is called “Engineering: Go For It” at
www.eGFI-K12.org.
Congressional Youth Leadership Conference* and
National Youth Leadership Forum* offer summer
and school year sessions which several JF students have attended and found very
rewarding.
Looking for worthwhile TV programs to enjoy as a family? The National

game to practice vocabulary for the SAT/ACTs: (It also donates 20 grains of rice
to the UN World Food Program for every correct answer you get. So far, the
