The State Board of Education in Virginia has adopted the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL), an ambitious and comprehensive plan, that outlines the basic knowledge and skills that students should acquire from kindergarten through twelfth grade in the four academic areas of English, math, science, and social studies. The SOLs are designed to make changes in public education that will significantly improve students' learning. The mission of the Bedford County School System is to ensure that all children of school age in Bedford County receive the highest quality education appropriate to their individual needs and abilities. For success in life children must have the highest quality education that we as parents and educators can provide them. The Program of Studies is an important part of the school system outlining the basic components of the educational program. The success of the program depends on the school staff, members of the community and parents working together to provide the highest quality educational opportunities possible.
