High Schools That Work
HIGH
SCHOOLS THAT WORK, a
program of the
Southern Regional Education Board, was designed to facilitate
school improvement for high school and middle grades with the goal of preparing
students for careers and further education.
HSTW emphasizes continuing improvement, integrated learning, raising
standards, and work-based learning. As
a part of the total program, HSTW provides member schools with opportunities
for professional development, technical assistance, and information and
assistance in making connections between business and education. Over 1000 schools in 31 states are
affiliated with HSTW. Staunton River
High School, one of Virginia’s first HSTW sites, has been affiliated with HSTW
for the past 11 years, and has been recognized as an HSTW High-Achieving
School.
The primary mission of Staunton River High
School is to assist all students in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed
to become productive, well-rounded citizens.
