Hello!

     I'm Kim Halterman, Principal of Thaxton Elementary.  I come to Thaxton as a new staff member this year, having most recently served as Assistant Principal and Acting Principal at Goodview Elementary.

     Prior to becoming a school leader, I enjoyed teaching Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 5th Grade in nearby Botetourt County. I also gained other experiences in a variety of settings working with students in PK-12.  Professionally, I am very interested in comprehensive school improvement, instructional leadership, teacher coaching, and special services administration. I relish being immersed each day in Thaxton and am so appreciating getting to know the fabulous staff and students here.

     Outside of school, my main interests include spending time with my husband, Justin, who is a History teacher, and our toddler son, Elijah.  We enjoy traveling around the region, particularly to see historic sites and unusual places. I have a collection of postcards and older souvenirs from these sites that decorate our home.  Our cat, Ichabod, is our "furry son" and keeps us company, as well, and we are never short a good book for pleasure reading!

     I enjoy meeting our school's children and becoming more aware of their interests and strengths. It is a wonderful feeling to be "settling in" to the community. 2010-2011 will be a great year!
