Reading is a big adventure at Thaxton Elementary School!

     Our first through sixth grade students participate in the Accelerated Reader program. We currently have over 2,300 quizzes and have most of the books for the quizzes, but not all.  Students at each grade level have AR goals that they must reach to earn rewards.  Those who reach their goals each nine weeks are invited to participate in our AR party and receive great prizes.  Classroom teachers may also determine how they will use the program in their classrooms. 

     Final awards are given at the end of the school year for the three students in each grade level earning the most points. The primary and elementary student with the most points wins an extra prize.  Students earning 100, 200, or 300 points for the school year also have their names placed on a special plaque outside the library.
