Aug. 2010
Dear Thaxton Families,
I hope that this letter finds
you well. I am excited about our new school year!
In your back-to-school packets,
you should have found your child's "pullout specials"
schedule. Pullout specials is our term for classes such as
Library, PE, Art, and Music. This year, we are offering a
full program of these activities to all our students
including a daily pullout special class. Most of our
specialists, however, have work schedules that vary from day
to day, as several staff members are shared between schools.
We have responded to this situation with flexibility. Please
note your child's schedule and the difference in the
semesters. You may also find the following information
helpful:
-
Students
attend pullout specials with their grade level
colleagues, groups of approximately 12-18, or roughly
half of their grade level colleagues.
-
Art
Appreciation is a fun, new class we have created that
will offer students additional art opportunities.
-
Our Guidance
counseling and Library Media positions are now shared by
Tracey Clark. Some guidance class activities will be
accomplished through the library routine.
-
The
flexibility in PE scheduling will allow us to offer a
walking club opportunity to students during their recess
block twice each month. What a great fitness option!
-
Students
will visit the computer lab with their teachers as
instructional activities indicate.
Please join me
in welcoming our teachers of these pullout specials classes
to the new school year. They are:
Nikkii Waicul,
Music, shared with Huddleston Elementary. Mon, Tues, every
other Wed
Judy Hylton,
Art, shared with Huddleston Elementary. Thurs, Fri, every
other Wed
Nancy Ferris,
PE, shared with Big Island Elementary. Mon, Wed, Fri, every
other Thurs
Tracey Clark,
library/media and guidance, is with us each day.
I am confident
we will adapt well to our new arrangements. Best wishes for
the school year! |
