Welcome to Bedford County Public Schools' webpage. Bedford County is located in the Piedmont Region of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seated comfortably at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The County is home to an abundance of natural beauty and historical sites, structures, and scenic tourist attractions including one of Virginia's largest lakes, Smith Mountain Lake.

2026-2027 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin on March 23, 2026, from 12pm-7pm. Any child who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, may be registered.  Registering for school on time helps every child, teacher, and school to be ready when school begins. Families register at their assigned elementary school. Please bring the required documents listed below: 

Birth Certificate
Proof of Residency (acceptable documentation includes a copy of a mortgage document, lease, or real estate tax statement.)
Current physical 
Immunization record

2026-2027 PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION

Preschool application intake will take place both in person and online. Below are the dates of in-person application opportunities throughout the county. Preschool applications will be accepted on the BCPS Preschool Website beginning February 23, 2026. PowerSchool Enrollment will open for 2026-27 preschool students on June 1, 2026.

NON RESIDENT TRANSFER TUITION 

We are pleased to share an important update regarding non-resident enrollment for Bedford County Public School that we hope you will share with your friends and family outside of Bedford County! 

At the June 2025 School Board Meeting, the BCPS School Board approved a reduction in non-resident transfer tuition. Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, the annual tuition for non-resident students will be lowered to $500.  This new rate is comparable to tuition rates in surrounding school divisions and reflects our commitment to ensuring access and affordability for families who value the high-quality education offered in Bedford County.

In addition, the application deadline for non-resident enrollment has been extended to August 1, 2025, to give families more time to plan and apply. In addition, we will extend the deadline for in-county zone transfers to August 1, 2025. Please note that final approval for transfers is contingent upon staffing and space.
