Dr. Mele was elected on November 5, 2019. She retired from Bedford County Public Schools in 2019 where she served as the principal of Stewartsville Elementary School and in the School Board Office as the Director of Elementary Programs and Title I. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University and both her Master’s Degree and Doctorate from Virginia Tech. Dr. Mele has been an educator for over 30 years as a regular classroom teacher in grades K-5, a special education teacher in grades K-8, a special education coordinator, and held various administrative positions. In addition to her duties as an administrator and director in the school division, Dr. Mele worked closely with the First Lady of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe, and served at the state level as a member of The Council for Bridging the Nutritional Divide to combat childhood hunger throughout the state. She currently resides in Goodview with her husband, Kevin.

Email: [email protected] Mr. Nelms was elected on November 2, 2021. He grew up in Bedford and is a graduate of Liberty High School. He currently works as a Traffic Engineering Technician for the City of Roanoke and also owns a Collision Repair Shop with his father. Mr. Nelms enjoys spending time traveling with his wife and daughter and working on cars in his spare time. Mr. Nelms has earned many certifications including several FEMA courses as well as completing a Leaders of Distinction course from Virginia Tech in 2019.

He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College. Mr. Hill is married to his wife of 20 years and they have four children who attend Jefferson Forest High School and Forest Middle School. He currently sits on the Piedmont Virginia Community College Educational Foundation Board as well as the Corporate Advisory Board for the School of Business and Economics at Longwood University.

Email: [email protected] Mrs. Hairston was elected on November 5, 2019. She retired from Bedford County Public Schools in June 2018 having served for twenty-five years as a principal of Otter River Elementary School for nine years, Bedford Primary School ten years, and assistant principal of Staunton River Middle School for six years. Mrs. Hairston earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education and special education from West Virginia State University and her Master’s Degree plus an additional twenty credit hours in school administration from Virginia Tech. Mrs. Hairston’s personal experience and involvement in public education spans over thirty-seven years. She has taught both elementary, middle, and special education students. During her tenure and leadership as principal of Otter River Elementary, the school received the State Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award for two years, the State Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award for two years, and the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. Mrs. Hairston and her husband Ben reside in Bedford and are the proud parents of two Liberty High School graduates.

Mrs. Kirby attended Ferrum College and earned a paralegal degree from Dominion Business College. She also serves on the Board of the Bedford Central Recreation Association and is a member of Bedford Professional Women. She is married and is the proud mother of two children enrolled in Bedford County Public Schools.

Mr. Daniels is a resident of Goode, VA and lives there with his 15-year-old twin sons who attend Jefferson Forest High School. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Georgian Court University. He has 23 years of private sector experience with Jersey Mikes Subs and is an Area Director and a multi-unit franchisee. Mr. Daniels relocated to Bedford County in 2018.
